Advanced drivers for additional VSAT support and radio networks for SCADA and industrial data transfer

RMOS v4.0 expands the number of devices with advanced driver support with additions in satellite and radio communications. New advanced driver support in v4.0 includes the following:

Inmarsat BGAN
The global broadband satellite network provides both voice and broadband data simultaneously with on-demand data rates. The advanced driver for Inmarsat BGAN in RMOS v4.0 expands on the satellite device support Uplogix already delivers for Comtech and iDirect satellite modems. Uplogix Automated Remote Management (ARM) appliances co-locate and connect serially with network and satellite communications equipment to provide non-stop local monitoring and control.

Using device manufacturers’ best practices and an integrated rules engine, Uplogix appliances can solve most common device problems autonomously, which means better SLAs for VSAT deployments. Before Uplogix, many errors with devices in VSAT networks required a site visit by a technician or an the attempt of an admin at the NOC to recruit someone onsite to troubleshoot sensitive equipment.

GE MDS Microwave Radios
As a foundation for data backhaul in many SCADA and distributed industrial applications, GE MDS 900 radios are now supported in RMOS 4.0 with an advanced driver. GE mobile data solution radios were designed for long-range communication networks across remote environments, making their standard use case an ideal deployment for Uplogix as well. Uplogix Automated Remote Management appliances reduce the number of service visits through automated support actions and secure out-of-band access to remote devices.

One example of Uplogix support for GE MDS would be deployment across an oil pipeline SCADA network crossing thousands of miles and hundreds of monitoring stations. Data gathered for flow rate, temperature and more needs to be reliably reported back to the operations center, meaning the devices at the stations need to work. Uplogix appliances connect to managed devices including the GE MDS radios, and provide local control and a reliable management connection to devices. This enables fewer truck rolls, greater uptime, and in cases when a site visit is required, better information on what the exact problem is.
